The Target Window was created to:
- Ease the task of choosing a target when many Feature
Classes exist.
- Adjust attribute defaults while sketching to streamline
work flow.
- Provide a simple snap environment interface for
quick snapping adjustments.
The Target Tab consists of an advanced targeting window,
a default attribute datagrid, and a simplified snap
environment control window. To eliminate redundancies
in the target list, all target data is listed as feature
classes, not layers. To control which layers new sketch
data will show through, default attributes of sketch
data can be adjusted before and during a sketch.
The target window lists all feature classes provided
by the layers in the active data frame. These feature
classes can be organized three ways. The default target
view separates feature classes by their feature type:
Annotation, Points, Polylines, Polygons, etc. Feature
classes can also be organized by their source workspaces
and feature datasets. The third option is an ascending
alphabetical list.
The attribute datagrid only applies to non-required
writeable fields and will only apply values to features
added using the sketch tool.
Note: Since default values can be adjusted at anytime,
even feature classes outside of the current edit session
are listed in the target window. Users must be aware
of which feature classes can be targeted to.
A snap control fly out simplifies snapping by listing
allowing global snap settings to be assigned to feature
classes.
